Please be aware that solar panel prices change daily. Depending on the time of the year and companies prices can vary extremely. We try or best to provide up to date pricing on this site but due to the nature of the fluxing market it can be hard to keep up with.
This is an independent website hoping to promote and encourage fair and competitive pricing on solar panels for the manufacture, distributors, installer and home owner. We strongly disapprove of tactics such as bait and switch shipping pricing, manufactures that are not honest, or stores that list an unrealistic amount of panels just to get your cost per watt down (no home owner is going to buy 400 solar panels). All the solar panels listed here must be UL listed.
Solar Panel History and DevelopmentThough harnessing the suns light for energy has been conceptualized since ancient Greece, it wasn't until 1839 that a French scientist discovered the photovoltaic effect of certain materials to produce energy from absorbing light. Later in 1883 the first photovoltaic cell technology was invented. Then in 1883 the means to capture energy from the sun was finally produced yet it had no practical application. The 1883 photovoltaic cell was of such poor quality that its power production was less the 1%. In 1954 Bell laboratories discovered a means to increase the power production of photovoltaic cells to near 6% by introducing impurities such as certain metals into silicon there by producing a highly light sensitive material. This new type of material made it possible to begin using photovoltaic for practical means, and as technology has developed over the year so has the power producing capabilities of photovoltaic cells. |
